Hello! Today's demo lesson is Multiplication as equal groups. Here is the big idea, one step at a time:
- Multiplication is a quick way to add equal groups. 3 plates with 4 laddoos on each plate is 4 + 4 + 4 = 12. We write this as 3 × 4 = 12.
- In 3 × 4, the 3 tells us how many groups and the 4 tells us how many are in each group. The answer is called the product.
- Order does not change the product: 3 × 4 = 4 × 3 = 12. Arrays (rows and columns) show this well: 3 rows of 4 dots is the same as 4 columns of 3 dots.
