Perimeter and area of rectangles

Hello! Today's demo lesson is Perimeter and area of rectangles. Here is the big idea, one step at a time:
- Perimeter is the distance all the way around a shape. To find the perimeter of a rectangle, add all four sides: length + breadth + length + breadth, or 2 × (length + breadth).
- Area is the amount of surface a shape covers. We measure it in square units, such as square centimetres (cm²). The area of a rectangle is length × breadth.
- Example: a rectangle 6 cm long and 4 cm wide has perimeter 2 × (6 + 4) = 20 cm and area 6 × 4 = 24 cm². Perimeter is a length, so it uses cm; area uses cm².
