Solids, liquids and gases

Hello! Today's demo lesson is Solids, liquids and gases. Here is the big idea, one step at a time:
- Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. Water, air, a stone and your own body are all matter.
- Matter is usually found in three states. A solid has a fixed shape and a fixed volume. A liquid has a fixed volume but takes the shape of its container. A gas has no fixed shape or volume: it spreads out to fill whatever space it is in.
- The difference comes from the tiny particles matter is made of. In a solid they are packed tightly and can only vibrate. In a liquid they are close together but can slide past each other. In a gas they are far apart and move about quickly.
