Hello! Today's demo lesson is Simile, metaphor and personification. Here is the big idea, one step at a time:
- Figures of speech help writers paint pictures with words. Three common ones are simile, metaphor and personification.
- A simile compares two things using “like” or “as”: “Her smile was as bright as the sun.” A metaphor says one thing is another, without “like” or “as”: “The classroom was a zoo.”
- Personification gives human qualities to something that is not human: “The wind whispered through the trees.” Wind can't really whisper, but it helps us imagine the sound.
