Hello! Today's demo lesson is Finding percentages. Here is the big idea, one step at a time:
- Per cent means “out of 100”. 25% means 25 out of 100, which is 25/100 = 1/4.
- To find a percentage of an amount, change the percentage to a fraction and multiply. 20% of 150 = 20/100 × 150 = 30.
- To write one number as a percentage of another, make a fraction and multiply by 100. 18 marks out of 24 = 18/24 × 100 = 75%. Useful facts: 50% = 1/2, 10% = 1/10, 1% = 1/100.
